INTERVIEW: Model, Actress, Fashion Designer, And Hamptons Regular, Joy Corrigan, Is Making Philanthropy The Centerpiece Of Her Clothing Line

Shakir Philippeby Shakir Philippe
in Entertainment
Home Entertainment

Originally from North Carolina, Joy Corrigan grew up in a small town on a farm as one of ten children, and made the courageous decision to move to Miami and become a model. Since then, she has lived and embarked on a successful modeling career in Los Angeles, the Hamptons, and the big apple. While in New York City, Joy signed with the Marilyn Agency and has starred in popular campaigns with Guess, Urban Decay, and Frankie’s Bikinis, as well as walking for designers including Roberto Cavalli and Vivienne Westwood.

Joy currently has an exclusive contract with Alo Yoga and has partnered up with several brands such as Monet Phone Cases by contributing her own designs. Joy Corrigan has managed to stand out amongst her peers with her passion for acting, artistic eye for fashion, and love for animals. Her adoration for animals and fashion led her along with her sister, Gina Corrigan Smith, to create Naked Species (www.nakedspecies.com), a clothing brand that offers everyday street style basics with a modern twist, infused with art and awareness.

The two have always had a passion for art, fashion and protecting the many creatures that coexist on the planet. As part of the commitment to end the extinction of endangered species, 10 percent of the proceeds from sales is donated to the Wild Tomorrow Fund (www.wildtomorrowfund.org), a non-profit organization dedicated to the protection of threatened and endangered species, since she has always loved animals and had a true passion for saving the environment. Joy personally designs every piece with her unique take on style and art – so everyone who wears the pieces can proudly display their support for endangered species as part of this important movement.

The blonde beauty has starred in the Lionsgate film Reprisal, starring Bruce Willis and Frank Grillo, and worked with Arnold Schwarzenegger on the film Aftermath, starring Scoot McNairy. She’s also graced the covers of Maxim France and Resident Magazine, and the coveted pages of GQ, Playboy, Ocean Drive, Galore, Marie Claire Magazine, and more.

I had the opportunity to speak with the international model, established actress, and philanthropist to learn more about her illustrious career, experience in the Hamptons, and what’s next for her fashion brand.

When you’re in the Hamptons, what are your favorite places to relax, dine, shop, and have fun?

JC: I love to start my day with brunch at The Maidstone, then I head downtown to shop around some of the local stores. Most days, I end up at the Gurney’s Montauk beach catching up with good friends.

What was the inspiration for starting Naked Species with your sister Gina? What’s next for the brand?

JC: I have always had a passion for fashion, art and design, and have dreamed of starting a clothing line with my sister ever since we were kids. I came up with Naked Species, and I knew helping save the endangered species had to be part of the brand. My sister has always encouraged me and is helping me with the business side of the brand, while I stick to designing and creating every piece. Fashion for a good cause has always been our main inspiration and we just launched our first recycled bikini!

What made you decide on the Wild Tomorrow Fund as the philanthropy to partner with Naked Species?

JC: We wanted to partner with a charity that shares our vision on ending the extinction of many endangered species. And when we came across Wild Tomorrow Fund, a charity that is currently on the grounds in southern Africa protecting and expanding wildlife habitats, we knew they would be the perfect match! Wild Tomorrow Fund is dedicated to the protection of the habitats these species depend on for survival, while aiding in providing the resources needed to keep these animals safe.

Your acting career is equally impressive to your modeling and fashion career. Are there any projects coming up that you can share with us?

JC: Currently, I am auditioning for some new and upcoming roles; I would love to be cast as a superhero in an action film. I did Karate growing up, so getting to use these skills on set would be a dream role. Stay tuned!

Do you have any lifestyle, beauty, or fashion tips for our readers?

JC: I have recently added meditation to my daily routine. This has been a huge help in reducing stress in my life and helping with my overall focus and success. In the mornings, I have been adding Ashwagandha, grass-fed collagen and MCT oil to my organic coffee. Just this little step has helped my skin to glow more than ever! When it comes to fashion, I try to buy from ethically or sustainable brands. I also love shopping at recycled or gently used clothing stores where I’ve found some of the coolest vintage pieces!

Is there anything else you’d like to add?

JC: Stay tuned for my latest designs on www.nakedspecies.com and follow me on Instagram Instagram @joycorrigan.
