There is nothing better than spending the day at the beach soaking in the hot Hamptons sun (while wearing sunscreen of course) and cooling down by taking a dip in the Atlantic. Hamptons beaches require parking permits between May 24 through September 1 but day passes are available at most.
Cupsogue Beach County Park (906 Dune Road, 631-852-8111) in Westhampton Beach is lifeguard supervised with shower areas, a changing room, bathrooms and the Beach Hut which has a menu including salad, wraps, fried chicken and seafood, a raw bar, and of course ice cream. Enjoy live music after 5 p.m. Daily parking is $5 for resident parking, free for senior citizens, handicap or volunteers and $10 for tourist parking from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Flying Point Beach (1055 Flying Point Road) in Water Mill is another family friendly spot with restrooms. Lifeguards are on duty from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and make sure you bring a few dollars for a stop at the ice cream truck. Gwyneth Paltrow has been spotted enjoying a beach day with her little ones at Flying Point. Parking permits are for residents only and daily passes are not available.
Single And Ready To Mingle:
For a European flair on the East End stop by Sunset Beach (35 Shore Road, 631-749-2001) in Shelter Island. The seasonal hotel features a luxury boutique and beach-side restaurant and bar where the Sunset Beach Rosé André Balazs “Réserve” Wölffer Estate is a must try. Pippa Middleton was spotted enjoying a game of ping pong with owner Andre Balazs last summer.
Top Beaches In The US:
Coopers Beach (268 Meadow Lane, 631-283-0247) is Southampton Village’s only lifeguard-protected beach. Coopers was rated the top beach in the US by Dr. Stephen P. Leatherman a.k.a “Dr. Beach” in 2010. There is a pavilion with concessions, bathrooms and showers. Seasonal parking passes are available for residents at Village Hall and daily passes are available for $40 per day at the parking lot.
Main Beach (101 Ocean Avenue, 631-324-0074) in East Hampton is also lifeguard-protected and was recently revealed the top beach of 2013 on “Dr. Beach’s” list. It also took home the number 3 spot in 2012. It also has a pavilion with bathrooms and snack bar. Daily passes are available and cost $25 per day on weekdays and a limited number of parking tickets are sold daily on weekends and holidays.
Catch a Wave:
Ditch Plains Beach located two miles East of Montauk Village attracts surfers from all over the East Coast. Lifeguards are on duty from 10a.m. to 5 p.m. at the beach which has restrooms, outdoor showers, and make sure you grab a snack at the Ditch Witch. Town parking permits are required.
Enjoy the sun and don’t forget to reapply. Looking like a lobster is not a good way to start the Hamptons season.
