“We received an overwhelmingly positive response from our retailers in East Hampton, with a record number of stores participating this year,” said The Retreat Board President and Shop at Sunset participant Gail Rothwell. “We are thankful to have a strong retail community that believes in supporting the lifesaving services The Retreat provides.”
On Friday, August 7th, more than 30 East Hampton stores will open their doors for a special afternoon of shopping during The Retreat’s Shop at Sunset. From 3 to 6 p.m., retailers including Gail Rothwell, Michael Kors, J. Crew, White’s Apothecary, John Varvatos, BookHampton, Breezin Up, Lilly Pulitzer and Calypso will donate a portion of proceeds from the event to the East Hampton-based organization, in support of their dating violence prevention initiative. According to the Centers for Disease Control, one in three adolescent girls will be a victim of physical, emotional, or verbal abuse from a dating partner, but less than one-third of teens in abusive relationships tell their parents.

Shoppers will enjoy refreshments, special offers, designer trunk shows and fashion giveaways throughout the afternoon. The event was inspired by Vogue’s Fashion’s Night Out and is spearheaded by Gail Rothwell and Debra Halpert of Hamptons Magazine.
The Retreat has provided domestic violence services and education to families on the East End of Long Island for the past 28 years. They provide prevention education workshops in local schools, as well as a weekly Teen Leadership Project, which recently expanded into the Southampton School district. Participants learn about the dynamics of abuse in relationships, strategies for resolving conflict, effective ways to support friends who may be victims of abuse and much more.
