It was a terrifying announcement. My new lunch spot, Lil’ Birdie in Sag Harbor, announced it was closing its doors October 2nd. I have just discovered this place a few days ago, and I’m completely hooked. Owners Alexis and Kye have outgrown the location and are moving to a new location yet to be determined, but we will keep you posted as soon as possible. If you haven’t tried out the food here, you MUST!
Lil’ Birdie in Sag Harbor is located right next to Jack’s Coffee shop. It’s super small inside and used to be a cool little bakery. I saw a sign outside that caught my eye which read “Try our cream of coconut lentil soup” and got a little hungry so I walked in.
Discovering Lil’ Birdie was like discovering gold. Inside are two bright-eyed guys who are the owners and operators. The chef is covered in tattoos and the guy running the register is rocking a hoodie. Above him was a simple menu with reasonable prices. It also smelled amazing.
“What’s up man, what can I get you?”
“I’ll take the Salad I guess with grilled chicken.”
“Nice.”
The chef behind the counter went into action and what was served to me was none other than absolute perfection. This place is LEGIT. The salad was remarkably unique, utilizing baby bok choy as the base, which is grown on a hydroponic farm upstate. It also included a light array of crispy onions, diced up and perfectly grilled and seasoned chicken thighs along with a cool hemp seed herb dressing and sliced grapes. I took one bite and was hooked. This place is now on my official “what’s for lunch” map.
The following day I was craving it again and my boss and I headed out there. For $15, he got the OG, which consisted of a grilled chicken sandwich, a side of crispy cauliflower that is miraculously not fried and a bottle of ginger ale.
Everything about our lunch was impressive. The quality of the ingredients, the efficiency of the order, the fair price and the absolute deliciousness of it all. The cauliflower is a real standout and includes Szechuan chilies, ginger, soy and cilantro, and it is cooked in what we both think was utilizing an air fryer. Neither one of us has ever had anything like it.
“This is it dude. We are going to eat here as often as possible!”
“Right???”
It really is good. This is not fake news. If you haven’t been there, get there, try it all because literally everything is absolutely amazing at this place, and support them while they plan their next move.
