As the flowers bloom and the trees green with life, there’s no better way to spend your days than by enjoying the outdoors with your fur family. Sunny beach walks with my dog always make me think of the animals in our shelters who are still waiting to find their perfect fit. There are currently 45 dogs and 56 cats at the Southampton Animal Shelter Foundation that are ready and waiting to find their fur-ever families. In an effort to shed light on some furry friends that are available for foster or adoption, SASF will be participating in an Adoption Event at Lenny Bruno Farms in Manorville on May 18th and May 19th. This will be an all-day event and an opportunity to meet a handful of SASF’s adoptable residents.
I sat down with Lauren, one of SASF’s Adoption Counselors, to give you all a glimpse into the personalities of Abigail and Maui, two of Southampton Animal Shelter Foundation’s longest residents.
Abigail is a 6-year-old and 5-month-old mixed Breed pup who was rescued from the streets of the Bahamas. She has a beautiful golden coat and ears that flop when she smiles. Abigail has a fluffy white spot on her chest and chocolate-brown eyes that will make you fall in love. She currently weighs 64 lbs and is considered a medium-sized dog. Lauren says, “Abi is mushy and sweet. She is weary of strangers, but once she gets to know you, she is so lovable.” Abigail loves playing with other dogs and Lauren considers her an “all star” in their pup play groups. Abigail has spent the last three years of her life at the shelter and is currently the longest doggy resident at Southampton Animal Shelter Foundation. There are so many perks of adopting a full-grown dog, especially one as sweet and cuddly as Abigail. If you’re interested in adopting Abigail, you can find out more information about her personality and ways to set up a meet-greet here!
Next up, we have Maui! Maui is a five-year-old male cat who has been at the Southampton Animal Shelter Foundation since he was a kitten. Lauren says, “Maui is super shy but absolutely loves other cats.” Maui is considered a domestic shorthair cat who is mostly black in color with blocks of white on his face, chest, and paws and striking yellow and green eyes. Having lived his entire life in the shelter, Maui is more than ready to find his furever home where he can nap in the sun and enjoy time with more feline friends. Let’s help find Maui, the perfect family! If you think this might be you, you can find out more information about meeting Maui here!
