Stop and smell the art! May is upon us, and the beginnings of a summer full of beach days, art openings, strolls on Main Street, and the energy only east-end goers know are in our future. We have all the details about what’s on view this month below.
Halsey McKay Gallery: “The Road Not Taken” and “Pot Paintings”
Two artists are on view at the Halsey McKay Gallery in East Hampton. On The first floor you can find “The Road Not Taken”, an exhibition of painting by Steven Cox on view until May 19th. On the second floor you can find “Pot Paintings” and exhibition of sculptures by Sabra Moon Elliot also on view until May 19th.
The Lucore Art Gallery: “Take to the Skies”
The works of artists Dalton Portell, Doug Reina and Carl Scorza will be on view at The Lucore Art Gallery in Montauk. “Take to the Skies” is a tribute to “the beauty and freedom of flight, featuring paintings that explore the enchanting world of birds, airplanes and expansive open skies.” The exhibition is on view now until May 15th, 2024.
Roman Kramoris Gallery: “Looking Back, Looking Forward”
Paintings by Christopher Engel will be on view at the Roman Kramoris Gallery from May 2 through the 23rd. The opening reception will be held on May 11th from 5pm to 6:30pm. Engel’s work “blends figurative and abstract imagery, employing expressive brushstrokes and a masterful interplay of colors.” The Roman Kramoris Gallery is located on Main Street in Sag Harbor.
The Pollock-Krasner House will reopen for the season on Thursday May 2, 2024. Guided tours for the public are available Thursdays through Sundays. Tickets can be purchased online at StonyBrook.edu/PKhouse.
The Madoo Conservancy Gardens opened for the season on April 19th, –stroll through and see what’s in bloom. Reservation times can be made on their website under the “visit’ tab. The Madoo Conservancy will also be hosting their 12th annual Garden Cocktail Party on June 15th. Tickets are available for purchase on their website.
The Gardiner Mill Cottage Gallery in East Hampton will reopen to the public on May 1, 2024. Their permanent collection includes paintings of East Hampton made between 1870 and 1900. East Hampton remains one of the earliest known art colonies in American History. The Gardiner Mill Cottage Gallery holds the works of many colonial Artists including but not limited to Thomas Moran, Robert Swan Gifford, Henry Golden Death, Edward Gay and many others. They are open Friday through Monday 11am to 4pm.
