Group For The East End Hosting Where The Wild Things… Themed Benefit

Get ready for a wild summer in the Hamptons. Where the Wild Things…, Group for the East End’s annual summer benefit, is taking place on Saturday, June 27th from 6 to 11 p.m., at the Wolffer Estate Vineyard.

The event, which is aimed at generating increased awareness regarding Long Island’s disappearing wildlife, will be complete with wildlife-themed cocktails and wines, local dishes, music and dancing and a live action feature exclusive East End experiences.

After the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation reported that 185 species, many of which are on Long Island, would be locally extinct within ten years without urgent action, the benefit is more important then ever.

“Can you imagine an East End without locally sourced quahogs (hard clams), oysters or scallops?” Aaron Virgin, Vice President of Group for the East End, asked. “This report is a wake-up call!”

Group for the East End has been advocating for the conservation of Long Island for more than 43 years and is well known and respected for its commitment to the local environment and its work in educating citizens and solving ecological problems.

This year’s benefit co-chairs include Katherine and Marco Birch, Kristen and Clark Briner, Carolyn and Greg Hoogkamp, Genevieve and Rob Lynch, Deni and Bill McChesney and Kim White and Kurt Wolfgruber.

“We have a choice – protect the nature of this very special place or allow it to be ruined,” benefit co-chair Katherine Birch said. “We are learning from the declining wildlife species that we need to be better stewards of the land, the water – the entire East End.”
