Just after the holiday of love makes its rounds this year, The Southampton Animal Shelter Foundation (SASF) is throwing its 2nd SPAY-ghetti dinner. Taking place on Thursday, February 16th at Buckley’s Inn Between in Hampton Bays, the fundraiser celebrates World Spay-Day (Tuesday, February 28th) and helps support the organization’s low-cost Spay and Neuter Mobile Clinic, and the community’s “trap, neuter, release” program, ADVO-CATS. Spaying and neutering pets to prevent overpopulation is one of the shelter’s main goals, and SASF hopes the spaghetti dinner increases awareness about this important issue.
“We run programs offering affordable vet services and surgeries to the public,” explained Kate McEntee, SASF Director of PR & Marketing. “We can only continue our programs with your support! Our SPAY-getti dinner is a fun way to help us. We are hoping you will join us this year at Buckley’s Inn Between for our SPAY-ghetti dinner fundraiser!”
Spaying/neutering is one of the most effective ways to address overpopulation. “Animal shelters are forced to deal with the overpopulation of dogs and cats on a daily basis,” noted SASF Executive Director, Jerry Rosenthal. “This year for Valentine’s Day do something for the animal you love and have them spayed or neutered and attend SASF’s Spay-ghetti Dinner that raises funds to help reduce the number of homeless animals in our community.”
Along with the delicious spaghetti dinner, there will be a Chinese Auction with prizes from local venders and a 50/50 raffle.
SASF’s Mobile Clinic efforts and ADVO-CATS program have both seen tremendous success. “Over 3,000 owned pets were spayed/neutered through our affordable in-house clinic. Our low-cost Mobile Clinic went out 95 times, spaying/neutering an average of 45 pets per week,” noted McEntee. “In its first year our ADVO-CATS spayed/neutered & vaccinated 811 feral cats. ADVO-CATS program is a TNR (trap, neuter & release program) for our community’s feral cats. We help control the population and keep it healthy by making sure they are altered and vaccinated. Spaying and neutering is the most effective and humane way to help these outside kitties.”
The 2nd SPAY-ghetti dinner will be held from 7 to 10 p.m. Admission is $40, which includes dinner, wine and beer.
