Nan Bush And Bruce Weber To Receive Champion Of Animals Award

Animal Rescue Fund of the Hamptons (ARF) will honor Nan Bush and Bruce Weber, long-time ARF supporters who have incorporated their love for animals into their film and photography projects over the course of their 45-year collaboration, during the annual ARF Bow Wow Meow Ball. Taking place on Saturday, August 19, the evening’s celebration will take place at the ARF Adoption Center, with cocktails at 6:30 p.m. and dinner at 8 p.m.

“The Bow Wow Meow Ball is our biggest fundraising event of the year, and is vital to supporting ARF’s life-saving work,” shared Jamie Berger, Director of Marketing and Communications at ARF. “We are thrilled this year to honor Nan Bush and Bruce Weber, who are long-time ARF supporters and have frequently incorporated their love for animals (including ARFans) into their celebrated projects in film and photography.”

Weber’s 2016 essay for Vogue Italia, A Dog Is Not Just for Christmas, gave voice to the unparalleled bond that is shared between animals and their families while also highlighting the compassion and empathy behind the inclusion of dogs in his films and photos. Both Weber and Bush share the same values that guide ARF’s mission and have adopted from ARF. Katharina Otto-Bernstein and Peter Marino will present the ARF Champion of Animals Award to Bush and Weber.

The festive soiree will take place at ARF’s 22-acre campus in Wainscott, where guests can enjoy cocktails followed by dinner catered by Cloud Catering & Events. The dinner will feature sustainable fish and vegan specialties highlighted by an elegant setting created by David Monn and Alex Papachristidis. Attendees will also enjoy music by the Peter Duchin Orchestra.

The animals in ARF’s care come from animal control centers, puppy mill rescue efforts and from people who can no longer care for them. In 2017 alone, ARF will take in over 1,700 dogs and cats. ARF provides full medical care to all of its animals. Since ARF was established in 1974, the animal rescue has saved over 25,000 dogs and cats and placed them with loving families. A group of cats and dogs available for adoption will make a special appearance at the event.
