Bay Street Hosting Inaugural Broadway Skating Party

On Sunday, March 7, ice skaters at Buckskill Winter Club in East Hampton are in for a real treat – as the evening’s soundtrack will highlight iconic Broadway tune after tune during Bay Street Theater & Sag Harbor Center for the Arts’ inaugural Broadway Skating Party. There will also be a special guest: Kyle Barisich – who played Raoul in the 25th Anniversary Broadway cast of The Phantom of the Opera.

“We are very excited about our first Broadway Skating Party,” Tracy Mitchell, Bay Street Executive Director, expressed. “It’s a safe way (at least for those who skate!) to get out and hear some wonderful Broadway show tunes, and see one another at a distance.” The event is open to just 80 attendees (the rink normally holds 200).

As attendees glide around the rink, whether they’re an expert skater that already has a go-to ice skating routine down pat or more of an amateur, during the 90-minute benefit ice skating gathering, there will be endless Broadway hits, from both past and present musicals – like Let it Go from Frozen – to entertain. When a break is needed, skaters can warm up with hot chocolate and snacks available for sale from the Buckskill snack bar.

“Bring the kids and come say hi to me,” Mitchell added. “I’ll be on the sidelines as I prefer not to have any broken limbs before summer of 2021! But if you know me, I’ll be singing along for sure.”

Since the evening is Broadway themed, donning an outfit with a little razzle-dazzle is completely acceptable – and even encouraged. “Don’t be afraid to wear your favorite Broadway show character costume!” Mitchell noted.

For those who haven’t skated in a while, Buckskill staff will be on-hand to provide skate sharpening for an additional fee.

The ice-skating party and benefit will be held from 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Doors open at 6:00 p.m. and guests may call ahead to reserve their skates to avoid any lines. The evening will adhere strictly to COVID-19 safety guidelines and protocols, including mandatory masks.

Tickets are $25 per person, which includes rentals from Buckskill Winter Club and a VIP Bay Street gift bag. A rain date is set for Sunday, March 14.

The weekend will also bring the return of Barisich to Bay Street’s Sip & Sing on Friday, March 5 at 5:00 p.m.
