Power of Glamour: Jean Shafiroff And Couture Council Toast FIT Museum

“Glamour is something that makes us feel if only: ‘If only I could be in the world that the glamorous person, place, thing represents.'” So said Virginia Postrel, who literally wrote the book on the subject. And so, the very glamorous Jean Shafiroff and The Couture Council Board of Director of The Museum at FIT hosted a champagne cocktail party at Jean’s Park Avenue floorthrough to celebrate Postrel’s treatise “The Power of Glamour: Longing and the Art of Visual Persuasion.”

Postrel told the group her book “delves into the elements that are in all kinds of glamour, whether we’re talking about the glamour of couture fashion, the glamour of aviation, the glamour of technology, or the glamour of battle, which is one of the oldest uses of the term. Helen of Troy is the personification of glamour in all of its allure and all of its scariest.”

Cornelia Guest Events catered the two-hour reception. The glamourous guests all walked out with copies of the book, thanks to Jean’s generosity.
