“We are thrilled to have Amy receive The Gilda Radner Award for Innovation in Comedy,” expressed Lily Safani, CEO of Gilda’s Club NYC.” She is an incredible performer and truly embodies the spirit of Gilda Radner.
On Monday, April 27th, Amy Poehler was honored with the inaugural Gilda Radner Award for Innovation in Comedy during Gildafest’15 at Carolines on Broadway. Ana Gasteyer and Rachel Dratch co-hosted the event, which paid tribute to their former “Saturday Night Live” co-star. The benefit included hilarious performances from current “SNL” cast members Aidy Bryant, Vanessa Bayer, Michael Che, Colin Jost, Bobby Moynihan, and Kenan Thompson, as well as skits and shows by Billy Eichner, Hannibal Buress, Michelle Wolf, Julie Klausner, Abbi Jacobson, Ilana Glazer, and members of the Upright Citizens Brigade Theatre. “We are also very excited to host Gildafest’15 at Carolines on Broadway. Caroline Hirsch had been very much involved with our organization during the early years of Gilda’s Club and we are happy to bring this event to her incredible venue,” noted Safani. We look forward to many more Gildafests in the coming years.”
Gildafest’15, which raised more than $80,000, is the first comedy event since 2003 to benefit Gilda’s Club NYC, a non-profit devoted to support, educate, and empower cancer patients and their families. Amy Poehler was chosen as an honoree by the organization for her incredible sketch and improv talents, in particular at Second City, Upright Citizen’s Brigade and “Saturday Night Live,” as well as her accomplishments in film, television and writing. Gildafest’15 kicked off the 20th Anniversary of Gilda’s Club NYC.
