Hamptons Stands For Heroes Celebrates The Bob Woodruff Foundation

On Friday, August 28th, Joan and George Hornig opened their home to the Bob Woodruff Foundation to host Hamptons Stands for Heroes, which celebrates the extraordinary work of the Bob Woodruff Foundation. While reporting on U.S. and Iraqi security forces for ABC’s “World News Tonight,” in 2006, Bob was seriously injured by a roadside bomb that struck his vehicle near in Iraq. Bob underwent multiple surgeries and an extensive rehabilitation process. Miraculously, just 13 months after the explosion, he returned to work as an ABC correspondent.

After seeing wounded veterans and their caregivers struggle to regain their lives, Bob and Lee were inspired to create the Bob Woodruff Foundation, which raises money to support grants for innovative programs assisting veterans, their families and their caregivers.

This special evening began with Lee Woodruff welcoming guests during a cocktail reception, overlooking the grounds of the estate. Bob Woodruff was unable to attend, because he was on assignment covering the anniversary of Hurricane Katrina, but his son Mack Woodruff was there on his behalf. The reception featured a special performance by actor, activist, and US Marine Combat Veteran JW Cortes. Following cocktails, guests headed over to the Hornig’s barn patio for a special VIP dinner.
