“Art evokes emotions, responses, memories and inspiration from those who view it and is created through the vision and passion of those we call ‘artists,'” explained Ron Mellott. “That connection of the artist, artwork and patron are priceless and timeless.”
Over Labor Day weekend, allow that connection to develop during the 7th annual Westhampton Festival of the Arts. The Festival, which is the largest of its kind on Long Island, was recently named one of America’s top 50 fine art events.
“It is enduring, [art] has been part of cultures since our earliest times,” shared Mellott. “It brings additional meaning and richness to our lives.”
The event will take place on Saturday, September 5th and Sunday, September 6th at the Great Lawn across from St. Mark’s Church (40 Main Street, Westhampton Beach). The arts happening will showcase works from painters, jewelers, sculptors, photographers, fiber and mixed-media artists.
A few of the featured artists include Teresa Moorehouse, a sculptor from Chicago; Evan Reinheimer, a kite photographer from West Islip, New York; and Claudia Ward, a photographer from Bridgehampton.

“It is a win for all involved,” Mellot said. “Holding it the same weekend each year helps ‘train’ people that if they come to the eastern shores of Long Island on Labor Day, they will always find our event.” He noted that the Festival not only benefits the artists or patrons of the art, but also the community because of all the people it draws in.
Admission and parking for the event is free. The Festival will be open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday, and 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Sunday.
