Ready, Set, Reboot!

It’s mating season! But has your dating life grown stale? Summer is the perfect time to refresh your profile on the apps—and your mindset—for putting yourself out there to meet potential romantic partners. Let’s go!

Summer is finally here! As your resident dating and relationship expert, I’m here to give you the tough love that you need to start off this season feeling refreshed and ready to let someone special into your life. See what I did there? I said to let them into your life, not to find them. It’s all about perspective and reframing, and that’s exactly what we’re learning here! When I need a mentality switch, these are a few things that help me.

1. Give your profile some fresh eyes.

If you’re feeling like your dating profile is getting stale, now is the perfect time to get some fresh perspective. You can get a dating app profile consultation (those actually exist… and I do them!) or as a less expensive option, you can ask an honest friend to audit yours. It’s always eye-opening to see how a photo you like might not be an accurate depiction of you, or an answer you gave may not represent you the way you think it does.

2. Pretend that your life is a dating show.

Is your life a dating show? No. But is it way more fun if you pretend it is? Yes! Take notes on the dates you’re having. Give names to the different characters in your life. Make it fun and romantic! That way, if someone lets you down, they’re just another player in your real-life dating game.

3. Fake it till you make it.

Summer snuck up on us and some of you may not have had time to mentally or physically prepare. If your confidence is not where it needs to be, simply fake it! Small ways to do this are: eye contact, posture, less apologies, and affirming to yourself the person you’d like to be in the mirror. Bring that energy into your dates, and no one will know the difference!

4. Go to an event where you don’t know anyone.

I’ve said this once and I’ll say it again: Be a yes person! This is the common denominator of all my friends who have found great partners. If you’re a yes person, then an opportunity can’t miss you. You also allow yourself to find someone out of your normal circle.

5. Use your resources.

Don’t forget that you may already know the people who are going to be the catalyst to how you meet your special person. I’ve set up five couples that are now married, and I barely knew some of them. All I needed to know was that they were single and total catches. Don’t be shy when it comes to being forthcoming about what you’re looking for. You never know who will be willing to make it happen for you!

This is going to be an amazing summer, and I hope these tips help you to go in with the mentality that you’re the prize, and dating can actually be fun if you change your perspective.
