A decade ago when I first started to report/write/cover/attend events on the East End, the name Paris Hilton had gravitas. Where she might attend, did attend, was going to attend carried weight. And she did show up everywhere. Yet lately the Kardashian Clan in the Hamptons “phenomenon” has overshadowed Ms. Hilton. I suppose there will be that photo of them all, Paris Hilton and the whole Kardashian Clan, posing at a benefit perhaps some time soon.
Katie Couric recently married John Molner in East Hampton, before a small party of good friends. It was reported that Katie wore an embroidered Chantilly-lace Carmen Marc Valvo gown before the ceremony. The actual wedding had the pair walking amongst their friends and family to take their vows while a string quartet played “Till There Was You.” It seems like only yesterday that Katie was throwing a private party at the Blue Parrott (2006) to celebrate a her $15M per year contract to anchor CBS news. She has handled all the changes since with class, humor, and smiles.
Eli Wallach, the world-renowned actor and East Hampton Guild Hall regular, both on the stage and in the audience passed away this week at 98 years old. I, like so many others, will miss his presence at local events with his quick one-liners, and deep insights. I envision Alec Baldwin will evolve into this role over the next 30-40 years. Alec was on stage at Guild Hall last weekend leading the post film discussion for the 2014 Hamptons International Film Festival Summer Docs screening of, “Life itself.” HIFF Summer Docs is now in their 6th year.
Not sure of the validity of the report of that while filming, “Kourtney & Khloe Take The Hamptons” (at Gurney’s Inn’s scenic Atlantic Ocean Beach), someone shouted out, “Hey Kardashians, Montauk is the UN-Hamptons!”
