A magnificent showcase of floral pièce de résistances will be on display when LongHouse Reserve’s annual gardening competition, Planters: On+ Off the Ground X, premieres on Saturday, June 19.
“LongHouse Reserve is thrilled to open its arms and grounds to our exceptional gardening community as we award ribbons at our 10th Planters: On+ Off the Ground X exhibition,” Dianne Benson, President of LongHouse Reserve, shared.
From 4:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., attendees may muse over the marvelous masterpieces while enjoying cocktails and music. They can also cast their vote for the People’s Choice Award.
The 2021 iteration will feature entries from artists, horticulturists, designers, gardeners, and landscapers, including Monica Banks, Bernstein Design Associates, Scott Bluedorn Art, CF Gardens, Vincent Covello with Antonio Sanches, Gardens by Romi, April Gonzales Garden Design, Hamptons Grass and Bamboo, Hedges and Gardens, Hortulano, Kathryn’s Gardens, Landcraft Environments, LaPenna Lee Gardens, Elizabeth Lear Landscape with DeMauro+DeMauro Gardens, Kate McCarty Organic Landscapes, Geoffrey Nimmer Landscapes, Piazza Horticultural, Serene Scapes of LI, Christina Stubelek Garden Design, The Horticultural Alliance of the Hamptons, Unlimited Earth Care, Joshua Werber, Wild Orchid Gardens and Nico Yektai.
“We excitedly await the installations by newcomers: the fearless artist Scott Bluedorn and the moss gardener extraordinaire Vincent Covello with Antonio Sanches among others and are counting the days to see what previous winners and entrants have in store for us this year,” Benson noted. “How will Geoffrey Nimmer top his bed made of flowers? Can we anticipate even more beautiful designs by Elizabeth Lear and Frederico Azevedo? Anything more monumental than Dennis Shrader? Anything more surprising than Harvey Bernstein?”
The innovation creations are always a spectacular sight – and the competition’s sole restriction is pieces must be contained to 25 square feet.
“The incomparable designers and landscapers Tony Ingrao and Randy Kemper will judge the exhibition this year. You can see their extraordinary five acres next week during Guild Hall’s Garden as Art — you will never believe that you are in the heart of East Hampton Village!” she added. “And to top it all at LongHouse Reserve on Saturday there will be music – there will be wine – and most exciting — everyone who attends will cast a vote for the People’s Choice Award.”
Garden Committee Chair Alex Feleppa and LongHouse Reserve Horticulturist Holger Winenga are responsible for the 2021 fête. Previous winners include Gardens by Romi, Hamptons Grass and Bamboo, Landcraft Environments, Geoffrey Nimmer Landscapes, and Piazza Horticultural.
Tickets for the opening day event are $20 or $10 for LongHouse Reserve members.
Planters: On+ Off the Ground X will remain on view through Saturday, July 31.
