Sag Harbor Kitchen, Waterfront Dining Reimagined Opens June 2023

Sag Harbor Kitchen, a highly anticipated dockside destination, is proud to announce its upcoming grand opening on Bay Street, in historic Sag Harbor village. Located in an iconic location that has shared its rich history with the American Legion for over 25 years, Sag Harbor Kitchen has reimagined the classic space, blending contemporary design with nostalgic charm to create a unique hospitality experience that celebrates the maritime roots of the community. SHK will feature a limited menu beginning Memorial Day weekend, with its official grand opening scheduled for Thursday, June 15, 2023.

Chef Melissa O’Donnell

Chef Melissa O’Donnell, the creative mastermind behind Sag Harbor Kitchen, has an impressive and diverse background in the culinary world. She has spent her entire career as a pioneer on the New York restaurant scene and has been recognized for her work over the years with five Michelin Bib Gourmand awards at three different restaurants. The Bib Gourmand is the rare Michelin designation for establishments that offer great food at affordable, neighborhood prices.

In 2001, Chef O’Donnell opened her first restaurant, Stella, to rave reviews in The New York Times and other influential publications. Stella introduced the concept of communal dining to the NY restaurant scene. Her next restaurants, Salt and Salt Bar, expanded on the communal table tradition Melissa had introduced, and was celebrated as a pioneer in the farm-to-table movement. With Salt, she won her first Michelin award. Her next two places, Thelma on Clinton, and Li’l Gem, both continued her tradition of designing great menus that fit into the diversity of their neighborhoods, and both were recognized repeatedly by the Michelin Guide.

Building on her decades of creating restaurants that fit perfectly into their neighborhoods, Sag Harbor Kitchen’s goal is to, at once, be both new and novel, and at the same time feel like it’s always been there. Thanks to O’Donnell’s dedication to the use of fresh, locally sourced ingredients from land and sea, SHK’s menu and vibe promise to be unique to the area.

Through her flair for combining traditional techniques with modern twists on classic favorites, an open kitchen, and her legendary communal table, Sag Harbor Kitchen is designed to be both a great neighborhood hang and a regional destination–by foot, bike, boat, train, jitney, or car.

Chef O’Donnell shared her enthusiasm for the restaurant’s opening: “I am thrilled to be a part of this exciting new endeavor in beautiful Sag Harbor. I’ve been coming to Sag for many years, and this opportunity to make this my next chapter is a dream come true,” commented O’Donnell. “My culinary inspiration at Sag Harbor Kitchen are the great waterfronts from Lisbon to Sicily to Beirut, yet we’ve crafted a uniquely Sag Harbor cuisine. My team and I are committed to creating unforgettable dishes that celebrate the local seafood and fresh, seasonal ingredients from the amazing farms around the Hamptons. We strive to surprise people with our menu of everything from great burgers and steamers, to the freshest seafood off the Montauk boats. And, hopefully, our communal table and community focus will turn SHK into a place that introduces new neighbors to each other, and rekindles old friendships.”

In an exclusive partnership with Kittch, the leading platform connecting chefs and consumers online and in person, Sag Harbor Kitchen will offer a unique new level of personalized dining experiences. These include special events with other renowned chefs from around the world, cooking classes, and live streams from the kitchen, giving customers a never-before-seen live look into the workings of a professional kitchen. Guests will be able to enjoy these exclusive behind-the-scenes glimpses from home, the restaurant itself, or even from the communal Kitchen table.

In addition to its sea-to-table menu, SHK will offer an extensive wine list featuring a curated selection of fine wines from around the world, with a special focus on coastal wines including the North Fork of Long Island, the Pacific Coast wine regions, Tuscany, Chile, and Bordeaux, across the Atlantic. Guests can also enjoy innovative handcrafted cocktails, featuring local ingredients and artisanal spirits.

With its prime harbor-front location, the restaurant will offer both indoor and outdoor seating, as well as a summer-long schedule of special events. Guests will have the option of enjoying drinks and a bar menu on the outdoor deck, featuring fire tables and lounge seating, enjoying sunset on the dining deck, or experiencing the sights and smells of the Kitchen itself. SHK will have a unique apres-beach cocktail and food menu, as well as a delicious apres-theater dessert and drink menu. It also offers a private dining room for dinner parties and special events. Sag Harbor Kitchen will accept limited reservations, but hold most of its tables for walk-ins.

Committed to supporting the local community, Sag Harbor Kitchen embraces its partnership with the American Legion, with plans to aid local veterans and their families through various initiatives and events. The restaurant’s dedication to the environment is also evident in its sustainable practices, from sourcing ingredients to waste reduction.
