The 40th Annual Shelter Island 10K/5K Run/Walk, a USA track and field certified course, brought out several running legends, including Benji Durden and Kyle Heffner (who made the 1980 Olympic team but were unable to compete in the Moscow Olympics due to the boycott), Bill Rodgers, former Olympian, four time NYC Marathon winner and four time Boston Marathon winner, Joan Benoit Samuelson, Olympic Gold Medal winner and first-ever women’s Olympic marathon champion, Jon Sinclair and his wife Kim Jones, and Keith Brantley. Eliud Ngetich came in first place for the 10K with an overall time of 29:49.19, a 4:48 mile pace.
