The Southampton Rose Society held its 45th annual Rose Show on Saturday, June 11, in the Morris Room of Rogers Memorial Library in Southampton Village. This year’s show, the first one fully open to the public for exhibiting and viewing since 2019, was a resounding success. An estimated 20-plus exhibitors participated, with many colored ribbons for exhibited roses and silver trophies awarded to winners of top awards.
Months of planning and coordination between the Southampton Rose Society and the Rogers Memorial Library, the Southampton Chamber of Commerce, and local vendors went into the production of the event and culminated in a successful show. The show’s tremendous team of volunteers from the SRS and local youth volunteers from St. John the Baptist, St. Anthony’s and Chaminade high school helped with all-day setup on Friday and the show on Saturday.
The annual rose show is held to give rose enthusiasts the opportunity to show and share their love, expertise and appreciation of roses with each other and the community. A robust crowd attended the show’s public viewing hours.
Saturday, June 11th also celebrated Rose Day. The SRS was grateful for the support from Mayor Jesse Warren and the Southampton Village Board in acknowledging June 11th as the second annual Rose Day in the village.
The SRS hopes to inspire more members of the community to join the organization and help them continue their work in the community. Plans for next year’s show are already being discussed, and anyone interested in learning more about roses or the Southampton Rose Society is invited to visit their website, www.southamptonrose.org.
