Saturday, June 17th is Rose Day in the Village of Southampton, a day to celebrate the beauty of the official flower of the United States, New York State and Southampton Village. Village businesses will be decorating their windows and sidewalks with displays of roses for judging and to beautify the village. The Southampton Rose Society will hold their 46th annual Rose Show, with members competing for ribbons and silver trophies for the best roses in various categories. The rose deemed the most perfect flower of all – the best in the show – is named Queen of Show.
Members in good standing of the Southampton Rose Society and American Rose Society may exhibit roses in the show and must follow the rules of the American Rose Society. The roses must be of high quality and grown in an outdoor garden. Guidelines can be found on the SRS website, www.southamptonrose.org. The rose show takes place in the Morris Room at Rogers Memorial Library, and is open for public viewing from 1:30 to 4:00 pm.
Anyone attending the rose show is also invited to see the magnificent rose garden on the library grounds that was created, donated and is maintained by the Southampton Rose Society to add beauty to the village. In addition the SRS has created and maintains smaller gardens in the village, at the Cultural Center, alongside Bamboo restaurant, alongside Shippy’s restaurant and next to the parking lot near Citarella.
