If you haven’t already seen Buddha Berry, the Sag Harbor hotspot for frozen yogurt, is opening a location in Southampton Village!
Buddha Berry originally launched locations in Montauk and Sag Harbor a decade ago. A few years later, a group of individuals, including Natalie Jones, with whom I chatted, took ownership of the frozen yogurt brand. Jones told me, “We have tons of special memories there, and we didn’t want to see its doors close.” Jones said that they are still in contact with Nancy Passaretti, Buddha Berry’s original owner, and she is very pleased with what they’ve done with the brand and excited to know that a Southampton location is coming soon.
Last year, Jones launched “Buddha Berry on Wheels,” a food truck service that acts as an opportunity to bring the delicious treats that we all know and love right to your doorstep or event! “People were very receptive to the food truck,” Jones said, “we learned how much people really loved the brand. People tell us that they’ll drive 25 minutes to go get Buddha Berry after dinner because that’s how much they love it.” (This includes myself!) And thus, the launching of the Southampton location came to fruition.
While Jones doesn’t have an exact date for opening, they have started construction and are hoping to open its doors come July. Details and information regarding an opening party and events will be posted on their Instagram and Facebook in the months to come.
As for what you can expect from this new location? “Our hope for Southampton is to capture what is so amazing about the Hamptons, which is that it brings people from all over together and to spread the Buddha Berry love.” Their Southampton menu will mimic the Sag Harbor menu with room for special flavors and additions to be introduced at random. “You can expect the hit flavors and vegan options to stay,” Jones said.
What Jones said next really showed the heart of our community, “One of the things that I love about Buddha Berry is that I can pop in after dinner and feel like there’s a really good chance that I’m going to run into someone I know. I think it’s a safe space, but it’s also a really special place for families to come together.” We chatted for a while on how Buddha Berry has become a hangout area for local youth and Jones’ hopes that carries over into the Southampton location.
Jones shared a beautiful story with me that chronicled a recent request to have a Buddha Berry fro-yo bar set up at a New York City Bar Mitzvah– the reason being? The child’s favorite part about their summer memories in the Hamptons: Buddha Berry. Stay tuned for more information on the Southampton storefront.
