Hamptons Earth Day Celebration At Canio’s Cultural Cafe

On Saturday, April 20, at 5 p.m., Canio’s Cultural Cafe in Sag Harbor will host “Speak Up For Earth”, an Earth Day celebration.

At the celebration, community members will read excerpts from great nature writers that express concern for the Earth. Some confirmed readers include poet George Held, publisher James Monaco, and the Reverend Alison Cornish of the Unitarian Universalist Congregation of the South Fork. At the event, Canio’s Cultural Cafe will announce its Earth Conscious Essay Contest, and a new Northwest Earth Institute course to be offered later this season.

The event is open to the public and all are invited to read a short excerpt of a favorite piece in keeping with the theme of the program. Please call to register to read.

Prior to the celebration on Saturday, April 20, architectural historian and director of the Cutchogue-New Suffolk Historical Council, Zachary Studenroth will speak about his new book Cutchogue and New Suffolk which was just published in the Images of America series by Arcadia Press at 3 p.m. The archival photographs in the book span over one hundred years of growth and change in the neighboring North Fork hamlets where agriculture has played a major role. Some notables associated with the region include Benjamin Franklin, Albert Einstein, composer Douglas Moore and vintners Alex and Louisa Hargrave.
