Starting Saturday, June 15 through Sunday, July 28, artwork from John Alexander will be on display at Guild Hall in East Hampton. On Saturday, July 20, Alexander will participate in a lecture about his work in the John Drew Theater at Guild Hall starting at 4 p.m.
The East End native maintains a studio in Amagansett and has created a new body of work that incorporates natural landscapes for the exhibition. Alexander was the 2012 Guild Hall Academy of the Arts Lifetime Achievement Award winner in the visual arts. He is a visionary artist whose paintings, watercolors, drawings and prints most often contain representational imagery that have surreal elements incorporated into their multi-layered narratives. He masterfully handles the subjects of landscape, flora and fauna, and he often takes these elements as well as the human form and incorporates them into a dialogue.
Guild Hall is located on 158 Main Street in East Hampton. For more information call 631-324-0806 or visit www.guildhall.org.
