Every year, Grenning Gallery in Sag Harbor prepares for the season of giving by exploring local artists’ studios in search of exceptional works to be featured in their salon style show. On Saturday, November 21st, the Grenning Gallery will debut their finds during the opening reception of the 18th annual Gems Show.
“The Gems show is definitely one of my favorite shows of the year because we always get to display our new artists that we really believe in,” shared Joanna L. Gmuender, Gallery Manager at Grenning Gallery.
If you’re looking for a unique gift for an art aficionado, visiting the show is a no-brainier. At the cash and carry exhibit, gallerygoers can pick out a piece for their someone special, and then wait while Grenning gift wraps it for you.
Featured artists will include Yin Yong Chun, who was born in China, and now lives in New York. Chun’s pieces mix his highly refined painting style with hints of his Asian influence. Matthew Weigle, who recently completed training at Jacob Collins’ Grand Central Academy in New York City and also studied at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts, has four works in the show. “We look forward to seeing what Weigle does next,” noted Laura Grenning.

Christian White, who often creates his masterpieces while in Sag Harbor, will have six new landscapes showcased. His featured paintings take on an abstract view of Long Island scenery. Fred Baker, of Southampton, a renowned collector of Long Island paintings, has loaned the gallery a few stunning 19th and early 20th century works for this year’s show, like William Sylvester Eaton’s “Near Sag Harbor,” and Whitney Hubbard’s “Sunset LI.” Artist Maryann Lucas was inspired by late October roses for her series of still life paintings. In Sarah Lamb’s “Petite Homage to Thiebaud,” a neutral, gray backdrop is colorfully brightened by berries and sweets, which adorn the top of three small cakes. Still lifes from Edwina Lucas, who will be featured in a two person show at the Grenning Gallery in April 2016, is among Gems features. The show will also include new works by Kristy Gordon and Carl Bretzke.
An opening reception will take place on Saturday, November 21st from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Gems will be on display through Saturday, January 3rd.
