Designed to celebrate artists of Long Island’s East End and unite those in this unique creative sphere, the Parrish Art Museum’s latest Artists Choose Artists exhibition will debut on Sunday, October 30th. Artists Choose Artists is an ongoing exhibition that highlights a carefully curated group of artists of contemporary creative practices from all mediums of work who present their best works in the Museum’s exhibit. Seven jurors each selected two of their favorite works from the over 200 online submissions. Pieces from these seven jurors, along with a group of 14 additional artists, will be featured at this year’s Artists Choose Artists exhibition.
“Artists Choose Artists is not only a wonderful survey of the richness and diversity of artistic talent on the East End, but a great means to nurture relationships between artists who are at different stages of their career,” said Corinne Erni, the Parrish Art Museum’s Curator of Special Projects. “Personally, it is a total immersion into my new community, as I am meeting everyone for the first time and starting a conversation.”
Mediums will include everything from sculpture to photography to even mixed media.
Artists to be featured include Tina Barney with Dinah Maxwell Smith and RJT Haynes; Lynda Benglis with Garrett Chingery and Saskia Friedrich; Tony Oursler with Jackie Black and Marianne Weil; Donald Lipski with Suzanne Anker and Ben Butler; Jorge Pardo with Anne Bae and Monica Banks; Cindy Sherman with Bill Komoski and Toni Ross; and Leo Villareal with Karin Waisman and Almond Zigmund.
Erni, and Alicia Longwell, The Lewis B. and Dorothy Cullman Chief Curator, visited the studios of the selected artists to compile a video that can be seen at the exhibition’s opening receptions and the Museum’s Vimeo page.
Alongside the exhibition and video, a few of the exhibition’s artists will be leading gallery talks and workshops throughout November to January, as part of the Museum’s annual Artist-in-Residence program. Through this program, students of the region’s schools will be able to meet artists, learn about the variety of artistic practices, and make their own pieces.
The Parrish’s third iteration of Artists Choose Artists is on view through Monday, January 16th, 2017. An opening reception will take place on Sunday, October 30th from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
