The East End Arts Gallery’s latest exhibit Collage, a juried, all media art show, will debut on Friday, June 16, with an opening reception taking place from 5 to 7 p.m. This show is one of seven art shows presented at the East End Arts Gallery that is included in the Gallery’s 2017 Elements of Style theme.
“Today’s collage is a beautiful and sophisticated art form balancing composition, color and content with personal style,” said Jane Kirkwood, East End Arts Gallery Director.
Gail Levin, a professor of Art History, American Studies and Women’s Studies at Baruch College in New York City, served as a guest juror for the show. She has written a number of articles and biographies including Edward Hopper: An Intimate Biography, Becoming Judy Chicago and Lee Krasner: A Biography. Levin has also published her own photography, collages and other art work.
“We couldn’t have a better juror for this show. Gail Levin is a distinguished professor of Art History, American Studies, and Women’s Studies at The Graduate Center and Baruch College of the City University of New York; a renowned collage artist; and authority on Edward Hopper’s art and history; and is known for her own sassy collages,” added Kirkwood.
Artists were invited to submit up to three original works in all collage media.
The Collage winner of “Best in Show” will be invited to participate in the East End Arts Gallery’s Winner’s Show in the fall of 2018. First, second, third and honorable mentions will also be awarded.
The Collage opening reception is a free event and open to the public. Refreshments will be served and the artists will be available to chat! All of the artwork on display will be available for purchase.
Collage will run through Wednesday, July 26.
