“Painter To Painter” Series To Debut At Parrish Art Museum In July

The Parrish Art Museum in Water Mill is set to introduce a new series on Sunday, July 2 where artists will lead gallery talks on current Parrish exhibits. Painter to Painter kicks off with Eric Fischl, an internationally acclaimed American figurative painter and sculptor, who will share his personal and professional insights on the Museum’s John Graham: Maverick Modernist exhibit.

“Eric and I have had many conversations about the artist John Graham, and when the idea of a gallery talk arose, he graciously agreed to lead one—but not from the perspective of an art historian, but just ‘painter to painter,'” said Alicia G. Longwell, the Lewis B. and Dorothy Cullman Chief Curator at the Parrish. “That’s how the series came to be.”

Fischl currently lives in Sag Harbor and was raised on Long Island. He earned his B.F.A. from the California Institute for the Arts in 1972, before relocating to Canada to teach at the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design in 1974. But Fischl couldn’t stay away from the Big Apple for long and once again moved back to New York in 1978.

Fischl’s paintings, sculptors, drawings and prints have been shown in numerous museums worldwide, including The Metropolitan Museum of Art, The Whitney Museum of American Art, and The Museum of Modern Art. Fischl has collaborated with many great artists and authors, including E.L Doctorow, Allen Ginsberg, Jamaica Kincaid, Jerry Slatz and Frederic Tuten. He is also a fellow at The American Academy of Arts and Letters and the American Academy of Arts of Science.

The critically-acclaimed John Graham: Maverick Modernist exhibition is the first comprehensive retrospective in 30 years of work by John Graham. The exhibit was organized by Longwell and features 65 paintings and a selection of important works on paper from Graham’s influential four-decade career. The exhibit is set up chronologically and shows Graham’s progression from cubist-influenced still lives to more abstract portraits. Graham then developed a different style of portraits inspired by Renaissance and 19th century French artists.

The Parrish hopes that this new series will help to shed light on current exhibitions from unique perspectives and also further their mission to create opportunities for the community to connect art with artists.

The next Painter to Painter program will be later this summer and feature Audrey Flack.

Admission to Painter to Painter is free for members, children and students and $12 for non-members. The lecture will be held on Sunday, July 2, starting at 11 a.m.

Parrish Art Museum is located at 279 Montauk Highway in Water Mill. For more information call 631-283-2118 or visit www.parrishart.org

At the bend of Huntting Lane in East Hampton Village, a remarkably restored Queen Anne Victorian—now offered for sale—stands as impressive as it is improbable.

Built in 1896 by James Edward Huntting and held by his family for over a century, the estate is a masterclass in American craftsmanship—built to endure and beautifully restored. Graceful gables, revived millwork, and preserved character bridge Gilded Age ambition, Hamptons high society, and highlight the enduring power of community in the Village.

Here, history feels alive—not in signs of wear, but rather in the lack thereof, a testament to the care that has returned the home to its original glory. Every detail has been honored, presenting a rare historic gem ready for its next chapter.

  • Every year at the Hamptons International Film Festival, there is a film that captures the local East End experience. This year, many believe that film is ON THE END, written and directed by Ari Selinger. In a half-hour Zoom call, Ari Selinger shared the story of how his debut writer-director indie-drama film came about.

He said, “I was location scouting all over New York, and I found myself on Navy Road (Montauk) back in 2011 with my production designer friend. We were two 20-year-old film students (NYU) looking for a shoddy auto repair shop that we could use to shoot a film. There I met this guy, Tom, in front of his very dirty property. He was fixing a car. He came up to the window and not only told us about numerous people to talk to… he just knew all these names, and he just seemed to be a resource. He’d always be whispering in my ear about this thing he was going through with the town, about this battle, about him trying to keep his house. And it totally went over my head at the time. I did not know very much about zoning laws and property values, and maybe I was a little bit cavalier about it, but back in 2016, there was a big piece in the New York Times on his story.”

  • Sag Harbor resident, actor, writer, and teacher Josh Pais has spent decades exploring what it means to be fully present—on screen and in life. Known for his roles in Joker, Ray Donovan, the original Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, and many others, he has more than 150 film and television credits to his name. He has now turned his focus inward with his new memoir, Lose Your Mind: The Path to Creative Invincibility, which was released on September 30, 2025.

Drawing on his years of experience as founder of the Committed Impulse training method, Josh offers readers a bold invitation to release self-judgment, lean into all feelings, and connect with the spontaneous energy that fuels authentic creativity. His message—both playful and profound—challenges the myth of “good” and “bad” emotions and instead celebrates the full spectrum of human experience.

Josh will visit Sag Harbor for a reading and book signing this Sunday, October 12th from 4:00–5:30 p.m. at Grenning Gallery (26 Main Street, Sag Harbor).
