Directly from your phone and straight into the art world comes Emoji Portraits, an exhibition presented by the Tripoli Gallery in Southampton, featuring artist Yung Jake.
“Aware of modern day technologies and unbound to any particular creative field or medium, Yung Jake’s work is constantly evolving and always one step ahead of today’s fast-paced trends,” said gallery owner Tripoli Patterson.
Since 2015, Jake has been working on his emoji portraits, which are centered on the pop culture phenomena of emojis. Jake’s co-owned company, Tig.ht Corp., developed a system for its users to paint with emojis which then allows the artists to use the emojis to recreate pop culture icons. The pieces then become a synthesis of patterns of emoji images, which gives each piece a funky and original twist.
Yung Jake is a graduate of the California Institute of the Arts. His emoji artwork has been featured in a myriad of magazines, and has been featured in over 20 galleries, both in the United States, and abroad.
Emoji Portraits will be on display from Friday, July 14 through Tuesday, August 15. There will be a public reception on Saturday, July 15, from 7 to 9 p.m.
Tripoli Gallery is located at 30 Jobs Lane in Southampton. For more information call 631-377-3715 or visit www.tripoligallery.com.
