“Ready To Open” Series Marks South Korean Artist CHO Yea Jae’s U.S. Debut

South Korean artist CHO Yea Jae will make her U.S. debut at The White Room Gallery in Bridgehampton on Thursday, August 9.

Yea Jae’s Ready to Open, part of Beyond also featuring Nicholas Down, Alicia Gitlitz, and Phil Marco, brings a fresh perspective on life as well as Korean affairs. Her work highlights the female strength, grace, sensuality and wisdom, showing life filled with hope in a transitional world filled with angst.

“Impressionism and the abstract embody a mad woman at work, common images take on humorous narratives, opposites attract and the metaphorical space between the real and imagined leaps off the canvas in Beyond,” said Kat O’Neill, Co-Owner/Co-Director, The White Room Gallery. “An exhibit that goes in many directions, most notably beyond the ordinary.”

Born in South Korea in 1971, her interests lie in philosophy, society and the environment in which she grew up in. An artist of contrast, her work highlights the opposites attract theory. Drawing simplistic conclusions from the explorations of both mind and soul, her work can have various meanings within one painting.

She considers her work a constant and continuous observation of the world as she is a world traveler, allowing many multicultural connections to further her eye for contrasting beauty and understanding of humanity.

Yea Jae was recently featured in three solo exhibitions in Hong Kong, Singapore and Paris. She largely works between Korea and Europe.

“Ready to Open is a body of work with the centric theme of hope,” O’Neill added. “CHO’s minimalistic style weaves sensuality, whimsy and simplicity to deliver the universal message of beauty in strength.”

The Ready to Open Preview Reception will be held on Thursday, August 9 from 6 to 8 p.m. and feature special guest appearances by the Founder of Gabrielle’s Angel Foundation, Denise Rich, as well as Recording Artist, Prince Protégé and Founder of Urban Farming, Taja Sevelle. The Opening Reception will take place on Saturday, August 11 from 6 to 8 p.m.

Yea Jae will be donating the proceeds from three of her works to three significant charities: Gabrielle’s Angel Foundation for Cancer Research, Urban Farming- Creating an Abundance of Food for All in Our Generation, and the PRN Alumni Foundation which supports the causes that the legendary artist, Prince supported during his lifetime.

The Preview will also include the unveiling of the first painting to benefit Gabrielle’s Angel Foundation, which will simultaneously be available for bidding on Charity Buzz.
