Market Art + Design is returning to the Bridgehampton Museum for the “largest and most important edition to date.” The Fair’s ninth edition will feature more than 80 of the top galleries from around the world, alongside a furniture and object oriented design presentation highlighting the industry’s most innovative makers.
“We’re thrilled to welcome 90 fine art and design galleries to Bridgehampton,” shared Kelly Freeman, Director of Business Development. “The caliber of gallery is extremely high, and visitors to the Market Art + Design pavilion can expect to encounter truly world-class work.”
Featuring extended hours tailored to the East End collector, Market Art + Design will be built into the Fair’s 50,000 square foot museum quality pavilion just off Montauk Highway in the center of Bridgehampton. The Fair’s 2019 Preview will open to VIP and Preview pass holders at 1 p.m. on Friday, July 6, and the VIP Party will run from 6 to 10 p.m. The day will feature a First Look at the Fair’s exciting presentations and food, drink, and live music from East End influencers.
Of the nearly 100 galleries, several Hamptons-based ones will be showcased, including East Hampton’s AB Gallery NY, Southampton’s ARDT Gallery, Bridgehampton’s Chase Edwards Gallery, East Hampton’s FolioEast, East Hampton’s Janet Lehr Arts, Southampton’s MM Fine Arts, Sag Harbor’s Monika Olko Gallery, Bridgehampton’s RJD Gallery, East Hampton’s Roman Fine Arts, and Bridgehampton’s The White Room.
“We’re excited as we have two booths this year; Booth 309A will feature a wonderful cross section of what the gallery offers in narrative portraiture, figurative art and magical realism. Booth 309B will be devoted to Andrea Kowch and will showcase her limited edition hand signed prints based on her original paintings. Kowch’s originals are in such demand that her works are pre-sold, sight unseen through 2021,” shared Joi Jackson Perle of RJD Gallery. “The RJD Gallery booth will feature works by Mary Jane Ansell, Mihaela Atomei, Jules Arthur, Juan Béjar, Margaret Bowland, Beth Carter, Drew Ernst, Aneka Ingold (winner of the 2019 Bennett Prize), Katie O’Hagan, Jantina Peperkamp, Harmonia Rosales, Jackee Sandelands-Strom, Jorge Santos, Suzy Smith, Lesley Thiel, Will Teather and Phillip Thomas. We will have one section of our booth dedicated completely to small works. We also have original works by Jamie Wyeth from the RJD Private Collection.”
“This is a three-person show featuring Anne Raymond’s lush, large oil paintings—abstracted landscapes, Amy Wickersham’s abstract mixed media works with dyed silk and acrylic on canvas in a range of beautiful pastels; and Beth O’Donnell’s unique diptychs—encaustic on Japanese rice paper, tissue and gampi papers with oil and ink,” Coco Meyers noted about FolioEast’s Market Art + Design presence.
Artist Bonnie Lautenberg’s work will return to the Hamptons. Jean Albano Gallery will present Artistica!, Lautenberg’s tribute to her favorite filmmakers and artists. In reviewing the collection, curator Levi Prombaum of the Guggenheim Museum remarked, “Throughout Artistica!, Lautenberg highlights film that borrows from the well-worked techniques of painting to create moments of intrigue, mystery, and romance.” He continued, “Through Lautenberg’s juxtapositions, abstraction’s high-keyed color becomes Technicolor; painting’s genres become comedy, drama, musical, and thrilled.”
The 2019 Hamptons summer season will also see the expansion of the Market Art + Design’s partnerships with The Parrish Art Museum, East Hampton’s Guild Hall, Aperol, Jadot, and more extending the Fair’s reach into the East End’s collecting community.
“We’ll also present an exciting selection of site specific installations and a garden cafe sponsored by our partner Aperol,” Freeman added. “The Parrish Art Museum returns as the Fair’s Beneficiary Partner – we are so honored to continue our support of such an influential institution.”
Market Art + Design 2019 presents the Hamptons with a unique opportunity – a chance to interact with top gallerists, incredible art, and cutting-edge design, right in the center of Bridgehampton.
The 2019 iteration will take place from Friday, July 5 through Sunday, July 7. The Fair will be open from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Saturday and 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Sunday.
