Musical Chiropractors Heading To The Hamptons

The Hamptons music scene is about to get a serious adjustment.

Returning to The Stephen Talkhouse on Wednesday, July 31st is the backbone-cracking music of native New Orleans band Flow Tribe.

“Our sound is rooted in New Orleans tradition of funk but we bring a lot of different elements to it,” KC O’Rorke, Flow Tribe’s lead singer and lead trumpet player says. “Definitely have some Latin flavors to some of the songs, R&B, rock, and a some James Brown influence as well.”

Formed by New Orleans natives after hurricane Katrina, the old high school peers came together and started jamming in 2006, and getting out there in 2007.

O’Rouke had played the trombone grammar school then put it aside until after Katrina.

“After Katrina, the only thing that really survived in my room, after the house was flooded out, was the trumpet,” O’Rouke shared. “I was like alright, the universe says I need to pick this thing up again.”

The band may run the gambit when it comes to sound, but their live performances are reported to provide a rip-roaring time. The six-man band has a trumpet, bass, drummer, guitar, harmonica, and washboard in their arsenal to entertain.

The band learned quickly that in the New Orleans music scene, they were the very small fish in a very large pond. They had to perform alongside musicians who had been on the scene for 20 and 30 years and try to survive.

In order to stand apart in the very deep rooted music scene that is New Orleans, the band had to be sure to distinguish themselves. They have successfully done so by following their motto to ” take the music seriously but don’t take yourself too seriously.”

They group strives to bring energy and attitude to every one of their shows, aiming to draw their audience in and make them as much apart of the experience as the band themself is.

“It goes back to the fact that you know people could do anything. They could go to the movies, they could do a million things, O’Rorke says. “We feel a responsibility that if you come to our show you leave feeling good. We’re like a musical chiropractor. Everything’s loose everything’s moving.”
