Hometown favorite Inda Eaton – who is often lauded as a captivating blend of John Mellencamp and Melissa Etheridge – is ready to celebrate the release of her latest album, Shelter in Place, and she’s inviting all to join her.
The album, which was entirely recorded at Eaton’s East End home, will be available for pre-order on Monday, July 9, through a crowdfunding campaign leading up to the official public release on Wednesday, August 8.
But, for those that just can’t wait for August to hear the new songs, Eaton is headlining at the Stephen Talkhouse on June 28, and concertgoers will a receive a complimentary copy of the new album. For the pre-release show, the musician will be joined by her full band, Jeffrey Smith, B. Rehm-Gerdes, Jeff Marshall and Mike Guglielmo, as well as a few friends, including Nancy Atlas, Lee Lawler and Rose Lawler.
“The Talkhouse show on the 28th and the surrounding week of other local appearances is the beginning of a conversation about the new album,” Eaton explained.
Shelter in Place will showcase eleven new songs – with cameos from Marshall, Guglielmo, the Lawlers, and more.
“As a performer you’re always on the road to somewhere. Often times the venues we play at, there’s a new venue all the time. You’re never quite comfortable and so you’re taking shelter in every venue,” Eaton told us in a previous interview about the album. “All that travel, which is exhilarating, is definitely not the comfort of let’s say home. I think Shelter in Place, one of the aspects is a tension between the road and home. In a way, every time we do a show or every time we’re gone, we are sheltering in place because we’re making a home wherever we are.”
When released on August 8, the album will be available on iTunes, Spotify and Amazon Music.
“Lately it seems like all of our lives are stretched like a rubber band…this music has been good medicine,” Eaton added.
In addition to Eaton’s show at the Talkhouse, she expects to tour more in the Hamptons, New York City, and out west, including visits to Wyoming, Arizona, California and Wisconsin, this summer and fall.
As of right now, already scheduled performances include Project Most’s Art at the Ark benefit on Sunday, June 24 and the Coast Grill in Southampton on Friday, June 29 at 8 p.m.
Stephen Talkhouse is located at 161 Main Street in Amagansett. For more information, visit indaeaton.com.
