Week-Long Classical Music Summer Concert Series Kicking Off With Grammy-Award Winning Bassist Pedro Giraudo

Music for Montauk’s (M4M) Summer Series returns this August across many of Montauk’s most beautiful and iconic outdoor locations.

The summer series has become a tradition that offers world class music performances under the direction of Lilah Gosman and Miloš Repický. Timed perfectly with the sunset, the combination of light, locations and music is a experience to behold.

The concerts last just about an hour and guests are encouraged to bring a picnic in the perfect post-beach, pre-dinner time. This summer’s series is a contemporary pulse and edge, highlighting living composers and current music.

“There is freshness, energy and relevance to the music of living composers that we are very excited to share,” Repický noted. “We have programmed works by three living female composers for this year’s series as well as works of Arvo Pärt and Philip Glass, all of whom open our ears to new worlds of sound!”

To kick off the series, on Tuesday, August 7 at 8 p.m. at Sole East, M4M will welcome double Grammy-award winning bassist Pedro Giraudo with his jazz ensemble.

The New York Times’s Giovanni Russonello said, “His arrangements have the ducking countermelodies and cross talk of a Bob Brookmeyer chart, and the feisty footwork of Astor Piazzolla’s up-tempo tunes.”

On Thursday, August 9 at 5 p.m. M4M will host music Harp, Flute, Viola, and Song with Fêtes Galantes. Internationally acclaimed soprano Rachelle Durkin, harpist Tomina Parvanova, Lance Suzuki on flute and Jessica Meyer on the viola will perform chamber works featuring Debussy’s Sonate for Harp, Flute and Viola at the Fort Pond House.

“This program is inspired by the idyllic setting of Fort Pond House – a perfect real world embodiment of the French Fête galante painting style,” Gosman said.

Double Grammy-award winning bassist Pedro Giraudo kicks off the series.

A special benefit will take place at the Art Barge in the Sunset Salon on Saturday, August, 11 from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. New works by violist/composer Jessica Meyer and a guest appearance by singer Talya Lieberman and clarinetist Luise Sachs, both from Berlin’s Komische Oper, with Repický at the piano will be showcased. Tickets to the Summer Benefit Party are limited.

On Monday, August 13 at 6:30 p.m., the Third House at Montauk County Park will host Bernstein & Co. The concert will celebrate Leonard Bernstein, his humanity, joy and influence on America’s music. The program features songs, piano and chamber music with soprano Talya Lieberman and baritone Jonathan McCullough, violinist John Marcus, Jessica Meyer, viola, and cellist Ani Kalayjian. M4M favorite Benjamin Fingland returns to perform Bernstein’s Clarinet Sonata.

Tuesday, August 14 will feature “Listening in the Mirror” – a special event in partnership with the Arts Center at Duck Creek at the John Little Marn. Cellist Ani Kalayjian, Violinist John Marcus, and Repický will perform works by Arvo Pärt, Mary Kouyoumdjian, W.A. Mozart, and others. Limited, reserved seating is available. The show will begin at 6 p.m.

The final performance of the summer series will be on Thursday, August 16 at 6:30 p.m. at the Third House. A chamber orchestra and soloists – led by violinist Sarah Whitney of SYBARITE 5 – will perform dance inspired music, including Edvard Grieg’s boisterous Holberg Suite, dance arrangements by Trifecta Trio of Appalachian Dance and Libertango, new works by Libby Larsen and Jessica Meyer, and Company by Philip Glass. There will also be a surprise dance performance.

The majority of concerts are free, family friendly, and open to the public unless otherwise noted.
