To mark the start of the 2014 Student Art Exhibition for High Schools at the Parrish Art Museum, an award ceremony was held to honor seventeen East End high school seniors. Artist Neill Slaughter, a professor of Visual Art at Long Island University, paid tribute to the students for their outstanding ability in categories ranging from printmaking to mixed media to photography. The event, which was held on Saturday, February 8, also recognized four high school underclassmen, Alyssa Cordaro (Bellport), Abigail Clemente (Southampton), Nitauke Williams (Southampton) and Haley Pisciotta (Westhampton Beach), as “ones to watch.” Southampton High School and Bishop McGann Mercy were awarded for their group project.
Students honored included Bridget Reiffert (William Floyd), Sara Schneider (Hampton Bays), Anna O’Connor (Southampton), Sharon Montanez (William Floyd), Katheryn Martinez (Bellport), Karen Quesada (Westhampton Beach), Lily Kamata (Ross), Leah Warren (Hampton Bays), Jonathan Ryan (East Hampton), Brian Intermaggio (Hampton Bays), Maria Valdivia (Riverhead), Nell Dobbs (Pierson), Leah Alraud-Ben Cnaan (Pierson), Vish Sharma (Centereach), Emely Rodriguez (East Hampton), Sara Bucking (Pierson) and Miranda Hirsh (Pierson).
During the month of February, the Hamptons Museum will showcase student artwork from public, private, parochial, and home schools. The 60-year tradition will exhibit nearly 300 works of art. This year, participating schools are Bellport, Bishop McGann Mercy, Bridgehampton, Centereach, East Hampton, Eastern Long Island Academy of Applied Technology, Greenport, Hampton Bays, Mattituck, Pierson, Ross Upper School, Shelter Island, Southampton, Westhampton Beach, and William Floyd.
The 2014 Student Art Exhibition for High Schools will be on display through Sunday, March 2.
