The Sag Harbor Cinema Arts Center Introducing “Local Produce: Great Filmmakers Of The East End”

The Sag Harbor Cinema Arts Center (SHCAC) is wrapping up 2018 by launching a new initiative that commemorates local filmmakers.

Local Produce: Great Filmmakers of the East End will highlight the area’s many talented directors, actors, screenwriters and other film talents through the series which will serve as an ode to their works.

The series will kick-off with film, stage and television veteran Harris Yulin. The actor and director made his New York theater debut in 1963 in James Saunders’ Next Time I’ll Sing To You, alongside James Earl Jones and Estelle Parsons at the Phoenix Theatre. He also teamed up with Earl Jones for his first film, an adaptation by Terry Southern of John Barth’s End of the Road. Over the past five decades, Yulin has accumulated over 100 stage and screen credits, which range from Hollywood productions to independent cinema to Broadway. He has appeared in Candy Mountain. Short History of Decay, 75% in July, Scarface, Buffy The Vampire Slayer, All Square, Murphy Brown, Billions, The Family Fang, Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, and many, many more. This past summer, he showcased his talents locally in Bay Street Theater’s Frost/Nixon.

“Harris was a natural choice to inaugurate this initiative,” said Giulia D’Agnolo Vallan, head of SHCAC’s programming committee. “The depth, the range and the originality reflected through his oeuvre perfectly embody the great artistic spirit that animates our region”

SHCAC will screen Yulin’s new film, All Square, at Pierson High School on Sunday, December 30 at 6 p.m. The dramedy, set in a Maryland suburb, follows John Zbikowski (Michael Kelly), whose bookmaking business has taken a hit because of the local economy’s downturn. In an effort to change his luck, he enlists the child of an old lover (Pamela Adlon) to start betting on high school baseball tournaments. Yulin plays John’s father.

“Reliably terrific,” New York Times film critic Glen Kenny said about Yulin’s All Square performance.

Additionally, the Cinema is currently taking part in a new challenge donation from Mike Namer and Christine Namer. After successful matching grants from Neda Young and Mary Heilmann, the Namers have raised the stakes with a $10,000 end-of-the-year challenge donation.

Tickets tp All Square are $10 in advance, and $15 at the door.
