Bay Street Theatre is set to come alive this weekend as Stages, A Children’s Theatre Workshop, Inc. debuts the fairy tale musical “Once Upon A Mattress.” Thirty of the East End’s most talented young actors make up the cast under the direction of Helene Leonard with musical accompaniment by Amanda Jones and James Benard. One of the greatest classics for both children and adults, “Once Upon A Mattress” retells the age-old story of “The Princess and The Pea.” This time, however, the story of royal courtship is accompanied by side-splitting comedy, dancing, and wonderful songs. Since its time on Broadway, people of all ages have come to love the musical calling it “delightful and witty.”
Marking Stages’ ninety-seventh production, “Once Upon A Mattress” opens this Saturday, May 10, at 2 p.m. with another show at 7:30 p.m., and one on Sunday, May 11, at 2 p.m. In honor of Mother’s Day, Stages will be gifting mothers in the audience a crown to fully embrace their status as queen.
Tickets are fifteen dollars each and can be purchased at the Bay Street Theatre Box Office, or by calling 631-735-9500.
