Studio 3, a professional Hamptons dance studio for children and adults, is presenting their latest production, “The Art of Dance,” which is premiering Saturday, June 7, at 7 p.m. and Sunday, June 8, at 2 p.m. The show will take place at the Southampton High School Theater.
Taking inspiration from artists such as Degas, Renoir, Matisse and Banksy, each performance features choreography, costumes and music inspired by famous artwork. Choreographers Meredith and Diane Shumway, Jenna Mazanowski, Liam Gifkins and Thomas Gallo have created a recital arranged to bring artwork alive through ballet, jazz, hip-hop, contemporary and lyrical dances. According the instructors, each class and level will transform a painting or sculpture into dance.

Teacher, choreographer, and assistant director Meredith Shumway found the inspiration for the production from a recent visit to the First Center for the Visual Arts in Nashville, Tennessee. “We are going above and beyond this year because students aren’t just dancing to music on a stage, they are expressing the mood, feeling, color, pattern and history of each work of art and bringing it to life,” Shumway said.
You can see “The Art of Dance” on Saturday, June 7, at 7 p.m. and Sunday, June 8, at 2 p.m.
