If you missed the Broadway debut of James Franco and Chris O’Dowd in “Of Mice and Men,” then make sure to mark your calendar because the Tony nominated adaption is coming to the Hamptons. National Theatre Live is presenting a special screening of Nobel Prize winner John Steinbeck’s novella at Guild Hall on Saturday, January 10, 2015 at 8 p.m.
While Franco has been making waves for his controversial new film with Seth Rogen, “The Interview,” his theater debut as George Milton was also highly anticipated. The play was one of the strongest-selling play titles of last spring according to Variety. Chris O’Dowd showed theatergoers his vulnerable side as the Lennie Small, the gentle giant.
The 2014 Broadway revival of Steinbeck’s play takes a compelling look at the American spirit and a heartbreaking portrayal of the bonds of friendship. The production was directed by Tony Award, Drama Desk, and Outer Critics Circles award winner Anna D. Shapiro, who also directed Broadway’s “August: Osage County.” Franco and O’Dowd were joined onstage by Leighton Meester as Curley’s Wife and Tony Award winner Jim Norton as Candy.
The production was nominated for two Tony Awards, including Best Performance by an Actor in a Leading Role in a Play for Chris O’Dowd.
