“Now you no longer have to go to New York, professional dance has come to Southampton,” shared Dance Fusion Chair and SCC Board Member Laura Devinney.
In 2014, Southampton Cultural Center (SCC) established DanceFusion@SCC as part of their ongoing arts and cultural expansion to fill a void of dance programming in the Hamptons. The program’s goal is to offer education and performance opportunities that feature various styles of dance, from traditional to jazz.
This year’s summer lineup will kickoff on Saturday June 20th at 6 p.m., with a residency from Soledad Barrio and Noche Flamenca featuring Open Workshops and an Evening Performance. Noche Flamenca is a diverse theatrical body of performance through song, music, and dance, which express an intense, magical aesthetic in the form of flamenco. They are recognized as the most authentic flamenco touring company in the field today.
On Saturday, August 1st, SCC will celebrate Southampton’s 375th Anniversary with a community collaboration throughout the Village, starting at 11 a.m. The event will include a modified Open for Dancing model, led by Island Moving Company. Interested dancers will work with IMC Artistic Director Miki Ohlsen and company members to help choreograph a site specific performance that will travel through the center of Southampton, from Agawam Park to the Southampton Arts Center.
Southampton Cultural Center is located at 25 Pond Lane in Southampton. For more information, call 631-287-4377 or visit www.scc-arts.org.
