Hampton Theatre Company Casting For Upcoming “Lost In Yonkers” Production

Calling all East End thespians, Hampton Theatre Company (HTC) is currently on the hunt for the cast of their next production, which will be directed by George Loizides. “Lost in Yonkers, considered by many to be Neil Simon’s greatest play, is a Pulitzer Prize and Tony Award-winning, tender comic masterwork about two young boys coming of age in a zany family of colorful characters in the “City of Gracious Living” in 1942,” explained Sarah Hunnewell, Executive Director of Hampton Theatre Company (HTC).

On Monday, February 1st, HTC will hold auditions for Lost in Yonkers at the Quogue Community Hall from 6 to 8 p.m. Both union and non-union actors are welcome to attend and readings will be from the script.

Hampton Theatre Company will cast actors for the roles of:

Jay Kurnitz (age 15 to 17, lead) – Jay is a Jewish boy who resides in an apartment over the family “Kandy Store” in Yonkers. He lives with his brother Arty, his kooky Aunt Bella and his frosty grandmother. Of the Kurnitz brothers, he is the mature and serious one that tries to be the rock of the family.

Arty Kurnitz (age 13 to 15, lead) – Arty is an observant teen that provides the family’s comedic relief, and handles situations by going with the flow.

Eddie Kurnitz (40s) – Eddie is the brothers’ father. He is forced to flee Yonkers with Arty and Jay’s mother in the hopes of finding work to provide for the family. Eddie is an extremely anxious person.

Gert Kurnitz (40s) – Gert is one of Jay and Arty’s aunts, who is so nervous upon visiting her mother that she breathes in for the first part of a sentence and exhales it on the second part, resulting in a very unusual affect.

HTC has already cast the roles of Bella, Grandma and Louie.

Rehearsals for Lost in Yonkers will start in early February, with performances running from Thursday, March 31st through Sunday, April 17th, taking place on Thursday, Friday and Saturday evenings and Sunday afternoons, at the Quogue Community Hall.

Appointments are not necessary to tryout.
