On Tuesday, July 26th, the Hampton Ballet Theatre School (HBTS) will celebrate their tenth year of teaching with a special performance of Peter and the Wolf at the Children’s Museum of the East End (CMEE) at 6 p.m., followed by a show at the Montauk Playhouse Community Center Foundation on Thursday, July 28th at 7 p.m.
Students of HBTS, which includes dancers that range from 4 to 18-years-old, will perform the magical choreography of Sara Jo Strickland – Director of HBTS – alongside Adam Baranello of A&G Dance Company who will dance the part of the Grandfather. This special production features a celebrity guest narrator, with the Sergei Prokovfiev score played by the 25 piece Hampton Festival Orchestra, conducted by Dr. Andrew Perea.
“Hampton Ballet Theatre School’s production of Peter and the Wolf is a wonderful summertime event!! It is a total collaboration of local institutions,” explained Sara Jo Strickland. “Music is played by the Hamptons Festival Orchestra, the story is narrated by East End radio personality, Bonnie Grice and the dancing is done by the students of the Hampton Ballet Theatre School.”
Both shows offer a unique backdrop. “The CMEE performance is performed under the stars in their amphitheater, while the Montauk performance is in the historic Montauk Playhouse,” added Strickland. “It is a production for the young an old, as everyone will appreciate some aspect of the ballet, whether it is the live orchestra, the animated narration or the fun dancing!”
Tickets for the performances at CMEE and the Montauk Playhouse begin at $15.
