A “tale as old as time” is making its way to the Hamptons. This March, you can see Disney’s Beauty and the Beast live at Southampton Cultural Center (SCC) as part of Center Stage programming.
Set in France, the iconic love story follows a self-centered prince who encounters a disguised enchantress that casts a spell turning him into a repugnant beast and his castle’s servants into household objects. The curse can only be broken by true love, and with time running out, the reclusive prince’s only hope is the headstrong Belle. The musical stage adaptation of this Disney classic features all your favorite characters, including Lumiere, Cogsworth, Mrs. Potts, and Chip, while the timeless Alan Menken/Howard Ashman score encompasses Be Our Guest, Beauty and the Beast, Gaston, Home, Belle and others that you’ll be humming along to.
“The story is an enchanting escape, but the Menken score, to me, takes the simple tale of girl from a rural village and catapults it to new heights,” shared Director Michael Disher. “Add Ashman’s clever lyrics and Beauty and the Beast becomes a sumptuous experience. And in the production, for the eyes and the ear.”
Center Stage’s Beauty and the Beast stars Marco Barrila, Daniel Becker, Michael Casper, Julie Crowley, Bethany Dellapolla, Gabriel DiFrancesco, Jonathan Fogarty, Adam Fronc, Joey Giovingo, Eli Jones, Katrina Lovett, Pamela Morris, Tom Rosante, Michaal Lyn Schepps, Anna Schiavoni, Alyssa Semken, and Amanda Summers, with Darren Ottati as The Beast and Mary Sabo as Belle. Amanda Jones musically directs.
Beauty and the Beast will premiere on Friday, March 9 and can be seen on Fridays and Saturdays at 7 p.m., and Sundays at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m., through Sunday, March 25.
“It’s a perfect way of celebrating and welcoming spring and honoring ten years of musicals here at SCC,” Disher added.
Tickets are $28 for general admission and $15 for students (under 21 with ID). Additionally, dinner/theatre packages will be offered at Plaza Café in Southampton, and brunch/theatre packages will be available at Edgewater in Hampton Bays before the Sunday matinees.
