After kicking off its 2018-2019 season with Ken Ludwig’s A Comedy of Tenors, Hampton Theatre Company (HTC) is looking to cast two roles in its upcoming production of Ernest Thompson’s On Golden Pond.
The production follows the Thayer family who gather at their Golden Pond home for what could be their last summer there. As Norman, Ethel, and their children spend time together, they reflect upon their relationships, life, and more.
HTC will hold auditions for the roles of Charlie Martin and Billy Ray on Sunday, November 18 at Quogue Community Hall from 3 to 5 p.m.
Charlie Martin, the local mailman, is a “jocular Maine down-Easterner” that has been a longtime family friend. He has been enamored with Norman and Ethel’s daughter, Chelsea, for many, many years.
Billy Ray, the 13-year-old son of Bill Ray, “is a precocious California teenager who comes to spend a month with Norman and Ethel on Golden Pond while his father and Chelsea travel in Europe.”
For the audition, actors will read from the script.
On Golden Pond will come to Quogue Community Hall from January 10 through January 27. Rehearsals will begin in early December.
The play debuted on Broadway at the New Apollo Theatre in 1979. In 1981, it was adapted for the big screen with Henry Fonda, Katharine Hepburn and Jane Fonda starring. It was the highest grossing film of the year and took home three Academy Awards.
“On Golden Pond is one of those sentimental comedies, cute and tender,” a New York Times review noted.
Anyone interested in auditioning who cannot read on November 18 may contact [email protected] to see if an alternative appointment can be arranged.
Quogue Community Hall is located at 125 Jessup Avenue in Quogue. For more information, visit www.hamptontheatre.org.
