“Our partnership with our local bookstore, Books and Books, has brought us so many wonderful authors, but we are especially delighted to host Glenn Berger talking about his smart, funny, amazing memoir, Never Say No to a Rock Star,” explained Nola Thacker, Westhampton Free Library’s Adult Program Coordinator.
Berger began his career in the music industry at just 17-years-old under the guidance of legendary recording engineer Phil Ramone at New York City’s A&R Studios. His apprentice – which started in 1974 – allowed Berger to watch music history unfold nearly every day and night when Paul Simon, Bob Dylan, Mick Jagger, Frank Sinatra, Burt Bacharach, Bette Midler, James Brown and more visited the studio to perfect their melodies and give intimate concerts that were recorded for the public to enjoy. He witnessed the icons bare their souls and was even privy to the uncontrollable outbursts of anger that sometimes came with the recording process. Berger shares these incredible, previously unheard tales and more in Never Say No to a Rock Star: In the Studio with Dylan, Sinatra, Jagger and More. The memoir also recounts how Glenn made the move from lowly “schlepper” to recording engineer notoriety. The memoir includes a foreword by Judy Collins who shares: “Congratulations, Glenn, you tell it the way it was. And I loved reliving it with you.”
His appearance at Westhampton Free Library is not to be missed by music fans who love learning insider tales about their favorite musicians.
“Books and talk and rock and roll – we can’t wait!” added Thacker.
