In Process @ The Watermill Center is an ongoing series of open rehearsals, workshops, artist talks and studio visits that invite the community to engage with the work of their international Artists-in-Residence. The Watermill Center invites audiences of all ages and backgrounds to gain unique insight into the creative process of artists, cultivating an understanding of how artists from across the globe develop new work.
About The Artists
Ville Andersson (b.1986) is a versatile artist, both in his use of different media and in his variety of styles and themes. His series comprise, among others, photographs, drawings, 3D computer design, paintings, installations, and texts. Ville Andersson lives and works in Helsinki, Finland. He studied at the Finnish Academy of Fine Arts. He has exhibited actively, including at EMMA – Espoo Museum of Modern Art; National Art Center, Tokyo; The Nordic Museum, Seattle; Tokyo Metropolitan Art Museum, Tokyo; Vitraria Glass + A Museum, Venice; Museum Weserburg, Bremen; The Centre for photography, Stockholm; FOMU – Fotomuseum, Antwerp. He was named Young Artist of the Year in Finland 2015, an honor which included two solo exhibitions – at Tampere Art Museum and Aboa Vetus & Ars Nova Museum, Turku – and a published volume of his works. Andersson is a recipient of the 2021 Inga Maren Otto Fellowship at The Watermill Center.
Robert W. Fieseler is a National Lesbian and Gay Journalists Association “Journalist of the Year” and the acclaimed nonfiction author of Tinderbox: The Untold Story of the Up Stairs Lounge Fire and the Rise of Gay Liberation — winner of the Edgar Award and the Louisiana Literary Award, shortlisted for the Saroyan International Prize for Writing. Queer literary icon Andrew Holleran reviewed Tinderbox as “far more than just a history of gay rights,” and Michael Cunningham praised it as “essential reading at any time.” Fieseler is currently working on his second nonfiction book, entitled American Scare: A Cold War in the Sunshine State (Dutton, 2022), which received a Robert B. Silvers Foundation Grant for Work in Progress. A Chicago-born writer, he currently lives with his husband and dog in New Orleans.
Gözde İlkin studied painting at the Fine Arts Faculty of Mimar Sinan University and received her master’s degree at Marmara University in Istanbul, Turkey. She works on different domestic fabrics such as table cloths, curtains, etc. that characterize social processes. She uses these fabrics to install her motifs and images onto. Her works on fabric depict today‘s cultural information, political and social relationships, and gender issues. Nene Humphrey’s work ranges from sculpture, drawing, and photography to video, installation, and collaborative performance. Throughout her practice, she returns repeatedly to subjects that interest her- neuroscience, crafts, and communal singing as well as the collaborative possibilities between art, music, and science. Her work has been exhibited in numerous museums and galleries since coming to New York in 1979. Exhibitions include the McNay Art Museum, San Antonio, TX, Mead Museum, Amherst, MA, Palmer Museum, PA, High Museum of Art, Atlanta, GA, Sculpture Center, PS1 Contemporary Art Center, and the Lesley Heller Workspace, New York, NY. Humphrey has received awards from the National Endowment for the Arts, The Rockefeller Foundation, Brown Foundation, and Anonymous was a Woman among others. Her work has been written about in numerous publications including The New York Times, Art in America, and ArtNews and Sculpture Magazine.
