It is difficult to describe in words how amazing the Yacht Kelpie experience is in Sag Harbor, but I will do my best, but the reality is that this luxury charter sailboat and it’s crew are on a whole other level of professionalism and service that is rarely seen anywhere in the world.
It all starts with the launch that picks you up and takes you to the boat. You are greeted by two strapping young men all dressed in white, who assist you in climbing aboard and are all wearing white gloves. They offer you water and a basket for your shoes and your group all climbs aboard. Instantly, you feel like you’re on an adventure.
The whole experience feels like you’re living in your own romance movie. Sag Harbor is just so beautiful, and as you approach Yacht Kelpie, you are greeted by its captain and owner, Shannon Carleton, an ice-eyed blonde woman who’s complete poise and graciousness sets the tone of all her crew. Everybody on board working for her, and I mean everybody, is on point. As we climbed aboard and settled in, we were immediately offered something to drink and were asked if we needed anything. And suddenly I just felt so at ease and relaxed. How the hell did I get here in the middle of Sag Harbor on this luxurious 78.8 foot schooner? And what is that Brazilian jazz music playing in the background? And why does this Rose taste so freaking good?
And off we went. The quiet but powerful engine of Yacht Kelpie roared to life. My wife’s sunglasses sparkled in the sun as my friends kids were all laughing and telling stories as the sun sets. I just couldn’t get over how well run the operation was, the second mate, Cody Boswell, worked in almost complete silence, but with a bright and bearded smile. Our server, Christine Tylee, also was constantly paying attention to us as she brought out waves of food, which included an incredible cheese plate spread from Cavaniola’s in Sag Harbor. Life is good.
After a wonderful cruise through the harbor, we dropped anchor in a secret spot and some of the guests on board were anxious to jump in for a dip in the bay. Leap after leap, the jumped off the bow of the boat screaming in happiness. Not a soul on board didn’t have their cell phones out to take pictures of the hoopla. After that, we pulled up the anchor and with remarkable expertise, the crew put the sails up and the boat felt like a magic carpet ride into the evening sunset.
If you are looking for something different, luxurious, fun, relaxing and easy, I highly recommend the Yacht Kelpie. You will not be disappointed.
