Have you heard of the Ye Old Bake Shoppe in Southampton? Looking for a classic bake shop with a true identity? You’re in luck! If you’re looking to be time-warped to an old English Village from the 1600s, then you have to check this place out. There’s nothing else like it in the Hamptons!
The shop makes its own rules, and it really shows, creating its own vibe and culture – something that locals can rely on. They are in a fairly odd location on the corner of Windmill Lane in Southampton, their sign has lots of character like it could be hundreds of years old; they don’t take credit cards, so don’t even think about using anything other than good old-fashioned American Dollars. Something tells me the owner doesn’t like cell phones.
Over the years, Shoppe hasn’t tried to branch into different concepts and offerings – through and through, this is a bakery. They only sell baked goods, and man are they good.
I stepped in there kind of randomly with my daughter and was glad I did. It is EXACTLY the way I remember it from years ago. Everything is baked on-site, that morning, with no preservatives, and the recipes haven’t changed an inch. Every fifteen seconds a new customer would walk in the door, cash in hand, grab their usual cookies or baked bread, smile, and leave.
I LOVE IT.
I couldn’t help myself and ordered a loaf of sourdough bread, cookies, and a croissant, I even had a pretzel, all amazing. How could it not be? People go there for the quality and the passion that you can just feel when you are in this type of place. It’s a must-visit if you’re in Southampton and are looking for a quick snack. It’s an absolute GEM.
