Alewife Trail Walk In Southampton

Streams and rivers along the East Coast once āran silverā every spring as alewives and other diadromous fish made their annual spawning migrations from saltwater to freshwater. Join Peconic Baykeeper Peter Topping as we search for alewives in Southamptonās Alewife Creek. Along the way, we will learn about the history of these threatened and ecologically important fish as well as the efforts being made to protect their future on Long Island. This will also be a great opportunity to see osprey, herons, and egrets so bring binoculars!

Bring your baskets and join the fun! The annual LVIS Easter Egg Hunt always attracts a large crowd of eager kids, parents, and grandparents. Younger children scamper in a designated area seeking candy-filled eggs, while the older children search on the rest of the LVIS grounds. Prizes are given to those who find one of several golden eggs, and the Easter bunny is always present for photo-ops. Thousands of eggs are placed throughout the grounds by our member volunteers, and somehow, no matter how many eggs we add each year, they manage to disappear in no time!
