This Saturday, head to the Amagansett Life-Saving and Coast Guard Station from 10am to 1pm for International Water Safety Day and learn about ways to stay safe in the water this summer. Each summer, lifeguards rescue swimmers daily out of the ocean in the Hamptons and many of these rescues can be prevented with a good general knowledge of how the ocean works.
Attending the event will be the junior lifeguards, the East Hampton Volunteer Ocean Rescue, the US Coast Guard Station and EH Marine Patrol, as well as Gina Bradley of Paddle Diva along with the Eastern Long Island Surfrider Foundation. Each group will be demonstrating to the public on the best and most practical ways to stay safe in the ocean or in the bays this summer.
The event is for everyone, including families with kids who are the most susceptible to dangerous ocean currents. Scott Bradley of The Bradley Team at Saunders & Associates, who is also a member of the East Hampton Volunteer Ocean Rescue said, “This kind of event benefits everyone in the community. You would be surprised how many people get into trouble out on the East End while swimming in the ocean. Learning good techniques and water safety can save your life or the life of your loved one.”
The Amagansett Life-Saving and Coast Guard Station is located at 160 Atlantic Ave, Amagansett, NY 11930.
